Electricity sub-meters

Point the phone. The bill is raised.

A month of meter reading used to be a notebook, a data-entry evening, and two wrong flats. Now your staff walk the corridor with a phone. Domio reads the sticker and the dial, checks the number against last month, and bills the flat when they confirm.

How it works

Four seconds a meter.

  1. A sticker on each meter

A small code, printed once, stuck next to the dial. It is what ties this meter to that flat, so a reading can never land on the wrong home.

  2. Point and hold

The app scans continuously, like a UPI app. It reads the sticker and the dial digits on the phone itself, understanding seven-segment displays and their usual smudges.

  3. Check, then confirm

Flat, tenant, last reading, units used and the amount, all on one card. If the dial was dirty, type the number. The photo is kept as proof either way.

Safeguards

It argues with a wrong number.

A reading lower than last month, or ten times higher, is flagged before it becomes a bill. A meter read twice in a month is caught. A sticker that belongs to another building is refused. The photo sits on the bill so a resident who disputes it can see the dial.

  • Reading compared with the previous one before anything is billed
  • Unpaid electricity carried forward so the next bill tells the whole story
  • Rate per unit and fixed charges set by the committee, changed with a date
  • Works for common-area meters too, split across flats by the rule you choose

What it means

Questions

About the meters.

Which meters does it read?

Digital sub-meters with a seven-segment display, which is nearly every sub-meter installed in the last fifteen years. Older mechanical dials can be read too, but the staff will type more often. Send us a photo of yours and we will tell you.

What if a meter has no sticker yet?

The app lets staff pick the flat from a list, grouped by building, so reading can start today. Stickers are printed from the panel and take a minute each to put on.

Does it need internet in the meter room?

Reading the sticker and the dial happens on the phone. The confirmation is sent when there is signal, so a basement with no coverage does not stop the round.

Who can read meters?

Anyone the committee gives the role to: the manager, reception or a dedicated staff member. Every reading records who took it and when.
