Privacy policy
What we collect, and why.
This policy covers the Domio website, the Domio app for Android, and the society panels at addresses ending in domioapp.in. It is written to be read.
Last updated 13 September 2026
Who is responsible
Domio ("Domio", "we") makes the software. Each housing society that uses Domio is a separate customer, and it decides what information about its residents goes into the system. In the language of data protection law, the society is the controller of its residents' data and Domio is the processor acting on its instructions. For the information you give us directly on this website, for example when you book a demo, we are the controller.
What the app and panels collect
The society enters, or asks you to enter, the information it needs to run itself. That is:
| Information | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Name, phone number, email address | To create your login, send you bills, receipts and notices, and let the gate reach you. |
| Flat, building, whether you own or rent, move-in and move-out dates | To bill the right flat and show you only your own information. |
| Family members, domestic help and drivers you add | So the gate can let them in without calling you. |
| Vehicle numbers and parking allotment | So the gate knows which vehicle belongs to which flat. |
| Bills, payments and receipts | The society's accounts. The amount, date, method and a transaction reference are kept. |
| Visitor entries: who came, for whom, when in and when out | Security of the society. Entered by the gate, visible to the flat concerned and the committee. |
| Complaints and requests, with any photo you attach | So the right person can fix the problem and you can see its progress. |
| Electricity meter readings and the photo of the meter | To bill electricity, and to settle any dispute about the reading. |
| The app version and a device identifier for the session | To keep you signed in and to tell you when an update is available. |
Payments
When you pay a bill, the payment is handled by the payment gateway the society has chosen, such as Razorpay or PayU, on that gateway's own pages or SDK. Your card number, UPI PIN or bank login never pass through Domio. We receive and keep the amount, the date, the method, and the gateway's transaction reference, which is what appears on your receipt. The gateway's own privacy policy applies to what it collects.
Camera
The app asks for the camera only when you attach a photo to a complaint, or when society staff read an electricity meter. Meter reading recognises the sticker and the digits on the phone itself, using on-device recognition; the image is not sent anywhere for that. The photo the staff member confirms is then saved with the reading as proof.
Fingerprint and face
If you turn on the app lock, the app asks Android to check your fingerprint or face. Android answers yes or no. Domio never receives, stores or can see any biometric data.
What we do not collect
The app does not ask for your location, your contacts, your microphone, your files or your other apps. It does not show advertising and does not contain advertising trackers.
What this website collects
If you fill in the demo, contact or account-deletion form we keep what you typed, the page you were on, the campaign link you arrived from if any, and your IP address, so we can reply and stop abuse. If we have turned on analytics or advertising measurement, Google Analytics or Meta Pixel may set cookies to measure visits; you can block these in your browser. The site uses Google Fonts, which means your browser fetches font files from Google.
Who we share it with
- Your society. The committee and the staff roles it has set up see what their job needs, as described in the society's own rules.
- Payment gateways chosen by the society, to take your payment.
- Hosting and storage providers that run our servers and store uploaded files, under contracts that forbid them from using the data for anything else.
- Email and SMS providers, to deliver bills, receipts, notices and sign-in codes.
- Authorities, if the law requires it and the request is valid.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Where it is kept
Data is stored on servers operated by our hosting providers in India and in other countries where those providers run data centres, currently including the European Union. Wherever it is, the same protections apply.
How long we keep it
For as long as your society is a Domio customer, so that your bills, receipts and history remain available to you and to the society. When a society leaves Domio, its database is deleted thirty days after it stops, once it has taken its export. Financial records may be kept for longer where the law requires a society to keep its accounts. Website form entries are kept for two years.
Your rights
You can see and correct most of your own details in the app. You can ask for a copy of your information, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account to be deleted. Because your society decides what it must keep, we will pass a deletion request to it where necessary and tell you the outcome. See delete your account for how it works. Write to privacy@domioapp.in for anything else; we answer within thirty days, usually much sooner.
Security
Connections are encrypted. Passwords are stored hashed. Payment gateway keys belonging to a society are stored encrypted. Each society is kept in its own database so that no search or export can reach another society's data. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run them and is logged.
Children
Domio is for adults who live in or run a society. Family members under eighteen may be listed by a resident so the gate recognises them, but they do not get accounts of their own.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and here, with the date at the top. Continuing to use Domio after that means you accept the change.
